Top 5 Comics (01-16-13)

Lets start this introduction to this weeks comics with something epic, so I give you 'Flash'

So yeah now that we have the epic theme of Flash Gordon in our minds lets get to some comics (the theme has nothing to do with anything I'm talking about this we, but I couldn't think of any rambling to start of this week).

5. Avenger Assemble #11 (Marvel): Just continuing the story already presented by Kelly Sue DeConnick since she has taken over the title. It's just one of those fun and personable titles that I'm really enjoying. Between this and Captain Marvel (also out today) Kelly Sue DeConnick is becoming one of my favourite writers in comics working today.

4. Saga #9 (Image): The Will finally has a good day. What does that mean for this series? Month to month this is a comic I look forward to getting my hands on every month, the art and writing is a master class in comics.

3.Threshold #1 (DC Comics): Cosmic DC mini stories written by Kieth Giffen, including a story about Larfleeze. I'm down for trying this out.

2. The Black Beetle: No Way Out #1 (Dark Horse): Story and art by the great Francesco Francavilla. Continuing from his great work in Dark Horse Presents. The amazing art should be enough to get you to buy it, but the story just adds more bang for your buck. Classic pulp stories are back thanks to Mr. Francavilla.

1. New Avengers #2 (Marvel): "The Illuminati gather to plan for the death of Everything." That alone should be something dragging you to buy it, tied in with the beautiful Jock cover, Steve Epting art, and Johnathan Hickman's amazing storytelling.

Top 5 Comics (01-09-13)

It's time for some comics! Are you ready for some comics? It don't matter if you aren't because here is some comic smackdown for you!

5. Action Comics #16 (DC Comics): This issue gets us even closer to the conclusion of Grant Morison's run on Superman in Action Comics. I'm looking forward to seeing how everything plays out in the end, and in the months episode we see the return of Superdoom. The last time we saw Superdoom was back in the Earth 23 issue where President Superman sent him back into the multiverse.

4. Thor: God of Thunder #4 (Marvel Comics): If what the solicits say to be true even a god king fall, and in this issue King Thor falls to the Butcher. What does this mean for the series and story arc?

3. Earth 2 #8 (DC Comics): The Furies! Steppenwolf! The last of the Amazons! This just sounds like good times to my ears. Could this be the introduction to one of my favourite characters, Big Barda, to the New 52. Even if it isn't we are getting more about Apokolips and that is just good times to me.

2.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Secret History of the Foot Clan #1 (IDW): Demons, ninjas, and the origins of the Shedder and the Foot Clan. The main series has been amazing, and all the micro-series issues have been great too. I'm looking forward to see how this mini-series plays out.

1. Sweet Tooth #40 (DC Comics): This has been one of my all time favourite series in comics. Nothing but love for this title and the work Jeff Lemire has done on it. This was the first non-superhero comic series I ever read and I fell in love. This issue is the final chapter of the series, and as much as I don't want to see this title end I'm looking forward to see how this all concludes.

(A little reminder of where this title has come from and where it has gone)

Top 5 Comics (01-02-13)

It's a new year with some new comics. So lets stop with this chatter and head on to the comics list.

5. Adventure Time: Fiona & Cake #1 (kaboom): This is the first time I've had a Kaboom title on the list, but this one has the potential to be great. I've started recently reading the regular Adventure Time title, and it has been great. I'm looking forward to this gender swap mini series.

4. Iron Man #5 (Marvel):  This has been one of my favourite series to come out of the Marvel NOW relaunch. This is building up to the conclusion of the Extremis story that has been building the bones for future stories, and I'm looking forward to the way this will lead into Tony Stark (Iron Man) being in the Guardians of the Galaxy.

3. The Manhattan Project #8 (Image): If you're not new to the blog you know I have a soft spot of this series, and the writer of it. I look forward to every issue of this title as it comes out. I'm just going to say this again READ THIS BOOK!

2. Batman Incorporated #6 (DC Comics): Like I really have to talk about this series. Come one it's the build up to Grant Morrison's cross title spanning series. I can't wait to see how this story plays out, and with the amazing art it's a title that can't be beat.

1. New Avengers #1 (Marvel): Johnathan Hickman taking on the Marvel universes Illuminati and them taking on the macro problems that face Earth. As well it is Hickman taking on characters I absolutely love, and other that I've fallen for while reading his other works. Lastly Black Panther is one of the freaking stars of this series, and it appears to have heavy focus on him.
