Top 5 Comics (05-01-2013)

I was going to write up a top 5 review for this week, but due to me having to go out of town for a doctors appointment I just wasn't able to until now. So while I was trying to pick out comics for this week I could only see two title that I'm actually excited for, and one I'm interested in by its cover but have been really disappointed in reading the title so far. I'm getting more comics, but I'm just kinda blah about them. The creative teams are broken, or I'm just behind on them, or just something else. So for the three title I'm giving you this week are:

3. Age of Ultron #7 (Marvel Comics): This title has been so frustrating. I don't know, it just doesn't work for me, but I keep reading it for some reason. Hopes of Marvel Man showing up in the end, a tease of Infinity in the closing extra issue, or maybe I'm just a sucker for events? I'm sold to this right now. This cover was one that actually sold me on the title, and now I want to know how this come to be, or whats going on for this to be a thing. Hopefully this doesn't disappoint, but it probably will.

2. Iron Man #9 (Marvel Comics): With Iron Man 3 coming out in theaters this week, and here we get the start of a brand new story arc with Iron Man. We get his secret origin, what could this mean? I don't know? I'm burnt out on the idea of 'secret origins', whats the twist that his father ultimately had plans to make him rise to his potential the whole time? That Tony is the last son of an alien planet? Who cares? The title has been amazing so far since the Marvel now relaunch with Kieron Gillen took over the title. This has been the first time I've cared about the character so I'm pretty sold on seeing how this story plays out.

1. Thanos Rising #2 (Marvel Comics): I know I just gave a rant about secret origins, but holy hell did I ever love the first issue. Jason Aaron is just a writer that seems to do no wrong. He gives good dark and deep stories that also have humour and soul to them. The art too is just wonderful, and works so well with the story being told. This is a must read title for me, and I recommend it to everyone.

And just to give you guys a little more stuff to round out the blog this week. I spent the day reading the Adventure Time comics (Kaboom) and Prophet (Image) both of those are amazing and good reads. I highly recommend the pick up if can. Both titles have trades out now and are worth the grab.

Top 5 Comics (02-06-12)

Its the return of my top 5 weekly comics pull list. It's a new month with a new attempted at regularly posting here. So lets get to the comics.

5. Swamp Thing/Animal Man #17 (DC Comics): This is a double placing, for today is the finale of the epic Rot World story that was building since the New 52 reboot. I have them together here because since the start of the Rot World story arc we've seen these two title intertwining, and it is only fitting to have them close out together.

4. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #18 (IDW): The Turtles find themselves in Dimension X. After following the Teenagers from Dimension X last issue to the home dimension of Krang! What does this war torn dimension have in store for our Turtles?

3. Iron Man #6 (Marvel Comics): Iron Man in space! This is the start of the AVX aftermath story THE GODKILLER. Could Tony be facing galactic repercussions for his actions in AVX?

2. New Avengers #3 (Marvel Comics): Johnathan Hickman and his Illuminati story. This is by far one of my favourite titles out of Marvel NOW. With a new member joining their ranks, could this be Beast in his new form as a representative of Mutant kind? (More than likely)

1. Avengers #5 (Marvel Comics): Another character development issue introducing us to some of the lesser known characters on the team. The last issue was great with it's Hyperion focus. I can't wait to see how these pay off in the long run of what Johnathan Hickman has planned for the title.

Top 5 Comics (01-02-13)

It's a new year with some new comics. So lets stop with this chatter and head on to the comics list.

5. Adventure Time: Fiona & Cake #1 (kaboom): This is the first time I've had a Kaboom title on the list, but this one has the potential to be great. I've started recently reading the regular Adventure Time title, and it has been great. I'm looking forward to this gender swap mini series.

4. Iron Man #5 (Marvel):  This has been one of my favourite series to come out of the Marvel NOW relaunch. This is building up to the conclusion of the Extremis story that has been building the bones for future stories, and I'm looking forward to the way this will lead into Tony Stark (Iron Man) being in the Guardians of the Galaxy.

3. The Manhattan Project #8 (Image): If you're not new to the blog you know I have a soft spot of this series, and the writer of it. I look forward to every issue of this title as it comes out. I'm just going to say this again READ THIS BOOK!

2. Batman Incorporated #6 (DC Comics): Like I really have to talk about this series. Come one it's the build up to Grant Morrison's cross title spanning series. I can't wait to see how this story plays out, and with the amazing art it's a title that can't be beat.

1. New Avengers #1 (Marvel): Johnathan Hickman taking on the Marvel universes Illuminati and them taking on the macro problems that face Earth. As well it is Hickman taking on characters I absolutely love, and other that I've fallen for while reading his other works. Lastly Black Panther is one of the freaking stars of this series, and it appears to have heavy focus on him.

Top 5 Comics (12-12-12)

Been awhile since I've done one of these, it has been some crazy times for me since I last did a top 5 comics list but enough of this crazy nonsense lets get to some comics.

5. Scarlet Spider #12 (Marvel Comics): It's the beginning of a new story, with the events of Minimum Carnage behind us what does this mean for Kain? With it being the beginning of a new story this should be a great hopping on point for the comic. It has been one of the more fun titles of the last bit, and if you haven't been reading it do yourself the favour and check it out.

4. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #17 (IDW): This title has been on my list several times in the past, but not so much lately, but not for it dipping in quality I just have been back burnering it since it is one of those titles I really enjoy and so I've been savoring the read. So now that I'm all caught up times look exciting and interesting for the Turtles.

3. Batman #15 (DC Comics): This is the only DC Comics title I'm picking up this week. The Death of the Family story has kind of been a miss for me, but I'm still interested in how it plays out. Scott Snyder does has an extremely creepy way of writing the Joker which I do like, but over all the story since the last two issue of Court of Owls has been kinda not as exciting as I would hope. Maybe the problem is more with me and a general feeling of blah with DC in general, and thus making it hard for me to enjoy much of anything from them.

2. Avengers Assemble #10 (Marvel Comics): SCIENCE BROS!!! This is the second issue of Kelly Sue DeConnick on Avengers Assemble and if her first issue (and work on Captain Marvel) is any indicator of what to expect from this title I'm going to be on for the long haul of the title. It has just been filled with fun little character pieces that give us something exciting and fun.

1. Iron Man #4 (Marvel Comics): Iron Man has been one of my favourite titles to come out of the Marvel NOW relaunch. Up until now I've never really read any Iron Man stories out side of the Avengers titles, and now I look forward to every issue of this title that comes out. New suite and equipment every issue to help Tony hunt down Extremis. Go to your lcs or comixology and get caught up on this title, it is pure wonderful comic book story telling.

SDCC - Snorefest

Was it just me, or did this years SDCC seem kind of disappointing in the comic book area? By that I mean that there wasn't any real announcements from the big two. DC Comics released their solicits prior to the con, and Marvel announced there big Marvel NOW! non-reboot plans right before San Diego. With them doing that it seemed to me like they were going into last weekend on the defensive and ready for attack by some fans, which was the case with DC over the Stephanie Brown Smallville fiasco. Though with Marvel we saw something amazing with their movie plans. Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

As well we got to see the next armor for Iron Man in Iron Man 3
